Matt Groening

Matthew Abram Groening (born 1954 February 15 in Portland, Oregon). Despite the way it looks, Groening actually rhymes with "raining". He is an Emmy-winning American cartoonist and the creator of the American animated television series The Simpsons and Futurama, as well as the comic strip Life in Hell.

After spending a few years researching science fiction, Matt got together with The Simpsons staff writer David_X._Cohen (who was still known as Dvid S. Cohen at the time) and developed Futurama, an animated series about life in the year 3000.

The Emmy-winning show was a moderate success but languished in the ratings. After four years on the air, the show was cancelled by 20th_Century_FOX. However, in a similar situation to Family Guy, strong DVD sales and very stable ratings on Adult_Swim have brought Futurama back to life, which is slated for four straight-to-DVD movies, as confirmed by Groening in an interview with the Onion AV Club. Comedy_Central has also ordered thirteen new episodes to be aired in 2008.
